Heavy Menstruation (Menorrhagia)
Definition:
Heavy Menstruation or Menorrhagia is defined as profuse, heavy and prolonged bleeding. This is abnormal uterine bleeding, which may be caused by medical problems or hormone imbalances. Many natural healers teach that the main cause of heavy menstrual flow is due to the lack of proper nutrition.
Symptoms:
A few of the symptoms are as follows: lumbar pains, bearing down in the abdomen, possible nervous irritation, constipation frequently, etc.
Cause:
During a normal menstrual cycle, there is a balance between estrogen and progesterone, which are two hormones in the body. The purpose of these two hormones is to regulate the buildup of the endometrium or the uterine lining of blood and tissue. Each month, during a woman's menstrual cycle the endometrium is shed. Menorrhagia may be caused because of the imbalance between the two regulatory hormones. As a result of this imbalance, the endometrium keeps building up. When it is eventually shed, there is heavy bleeding. Many naturalists teach that this health issue is primarily due to a combination of hormone imbalance and improper nutrition.
